Wonder Bread

Today's adventure brought us to our local Wonder Bread outlet. The anticancer life and Wonder Bread sounds like an oxymoron but I am delighted to say it's not necessarily. Being the mom to two children who are selective eaters yet who reliably enjoy PBJ and grilled cheese sandwiches, I have gotten to know the ingredient labels of many loaves of bread. High fructose corn syrup, artificial colors, trans fat, and preservatives all immediately disqualify a bread from coming into my home. One bread that makes the cut is Nature's Pride Healthy Multi-Grain.

We go through at least 1 loaf of bread per week. To save money I usually purchase our bread at our local Wonder bread outlet store. Nestled between rows of white bread and questionable snack cakes one can find these hidden treasures. A bonus of buying our bread at the outlet is that we save lots of money. The specialty breads run $.99 per loaf. The downside of shopping at the outlet is sometimes they do not exactly what I want and I have to compromise. The clerk at our local store recognizes me and is usually willing to check the back room if they don't have what I'm looking for out front. When they have what I want I always stock-up. I have found that 4 loaves of bread will fit comfortably in my freezer ice cube compartment. My family doesn't notice a big difference in frozen or fresh bread.
Anticancer note: Dr. Servan-Schreiber MD (anticancer author) states that wheat bread should contain at least 3 other grains (such as oatmeal).
