Yardwork with children

Goodhardworker Ian

The weeds growing between the bricks on my front patio have been irritating me lately. I pull them as I walk by on the rare occassions that I have a free hand. The temporary satisfaction of having them cleared away fades when they return only days later. Spraying with weedkiller turns me off since my children play on the patio and it pollutes the groundwater we drink. Today I decided to test out spraying the weeds with vinegar. (I have read that spraying it on the weeds directly kills them and in a few days they can be easily pulled up.)

Time is always the dilemma of a stay-at-home mom. It can be scary to have 2 3-year olds out in the unfenced front yard. As luck had it Janie slept extra-long during naptime and Ian didn't sleep a wink. As a mother I believe one of my most important jobs is to teach my children skills so they can grow up to be productive, contributing to society adults. A friend describes this as being good marriage material. However you wish to describe this, I think we all know people who are like this and others who simply are not. So, Ian had the fortune of squirting weeds alongside me. The trigger was hard for him to pull so I poured some vinegar into a recycled mustard bottle.

In a few days I will update you on the fate of the patio weeds....
